Introduction to the Match Day Programme
Welcome to the North Devon Cricket Club, which was founded 186 years
ago, and, after its first 5 years in Barnstaple, has ever since played
here at Instow.
The Club is very proud of its ground, situated at the junction of the
Taw and Torridge rivers, which we like to think is one of, if not the
best and most beautiful of grounds in the south-west, and we are
thrilled to welcome the multi-talented Lashing's team here for the
first time.
During the Club's existence, many Test cricketers have, from time to
time, played at Instow - mainly past England players, but also Charlie
Griffiths of the West Indies and Buck Divecha of India. However, we
have never been honoured by such a galaxy of Test Match stars playing
here, who in comparatively recent years (between them) have
represented Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka,
West Indies, Zimbabwe and England.
We wish all these players, as well as all spectators, a very warm
welcome, and hope that, despite the miserable summer to date, the
weather will be equally warm, and that everyone will enjoy a memorable
day.
The Club thanks you all, players and spectators, for coming and
supporting cricket at Instow.
