Reports from
last weekend 22nd & 23rd August
Saturday
The 1st Eleven were
away to Bradninch. The toss was won by the home side
and turned out to be vital as we soon slumped to 24
for 7. The ball jagged from a good length up and
down as well as side to side. We eventually
struggled to 129 all out with Craig Overton 49,
Martin Gear 25 and Jamie Overton 28 batting at 8,9
and 10 respectively. The devil in the wicket seemed
to disappear after tea as Bradninch romped home by 7
wickets.
The 2nd
Eleven were home to relegation worried Exmouth,
after an innocuous start with poor bowling and a few
dropped catches the spinners eventually regained
control and limited Exmouth to 174-8. Fortunately
the batters redeemed the early bowlers with Ian Gear
59 No and Warren Miller 54 No winning by 8 wickets with
10 overs to spare.
The 3rd Eleven were
away to Cullompton. The stand-in skipper won the
toss and considered his options for almost 10
seconds, as Richard was stuck in traffic. After this
careful consideration and much soul searching, he
decided to bat on a wet, muddy, slow wicket that
could only improve! The openers struggled to a
partnership of 130, with Tom Stanton 1st out on 50.
After another quick wicket on this damp, horrible
track Mike Record added a further 62 No with 8
sixes. The real hero though was Richard Clarke with
113 his maiden fifty then maiden century, he opened
the innings with Tom, and batted through to the 46th
over. Well done Richard! A magnificent effort, helping
the 3rds reach 290-4. The bowlers then took over.
Raymond Clarke took 2 wickets, James Alexander another 2 with both Joe Kelly and Robert Mann 3 a
piece. Cullompton were all out for 36 in 15 overs. Maybe
Clifford considered his options and got it right!!!!
Sunday
The 1st Eleven
travelled to Filleigh in the NDL Div 1 and won a
helpful toss. Filleigh soon found
themselves in trouble at 40 -5 and 50-6 after
useful bowling from Craig Overton 9-0-23-3 and Matt
Dart 9-2-7-3. Eventually Filleigh succumbed at 130
all out. The target was probably one or two too many.
But with a fine 45 No from Craig Overton and 21 from Stuart
Rhodes we got home with almost two overs to spare
and 5 wickets in hand. The win has helped the team
rise to 2nd
in the league.
The twos were at
home to Incorrigibles who batted first on a helpful
wicket. Incorrigibles reached 175 for 7 with the
principle wicket takers Raymond Clarke 9-1-20-3 and
Jon Wainwright 9-0-26-4. The chase was difficult as
we slumped to 24-3 and eventually 108 all out. Tom
Stanton 32 and Jon Wainwright 26 the only
players to trouble the scorers
