Chris
Rogers
Australian,
Victoria, Western Australia, Derbyshire and North
Devon CC.
During Middlesex’s last county championship match of
the season at Uxbridge, Keith Palmer met up with
Derbyshire captain and North Devon old boy,
Australian Chris Rogers. Chris, now 32 played for
North Devon for 3 seasons in the late 1990’s and in
1997 scored a record 1,273 Devon League runs.
Back home he played state cricket for Western
Australia from 1998-99 to 2007-08 before moving to
Victoria last winter. He has currently played in
just one test match against India January 2008
scoring 4 & 15.
In
England he first played for Derbyshire in 2004,
Leicestershire in 2005 and Northamptonshire in 2006
before returning to Derbyshire in 2008. His current
highest First Class score is 319 for
Northamptonshire against Gloucestershire in 2006 and
in 2005 he scored 219 for Leicestershire against the
touring Australians!
During the course of our conversation he talked very
fondly about the time he spent in Devon and was very
interested to hear news of the Club, the new nets,
the first eleven, the formation of the Saturday
third eleven and especially the colts. He sends his
best wishes to all those that remember him.
In
the second innings of the Championship game he
scored an unbeaten century to set Middlesex a
challenging but sporting 330 to win in a minimum of
75 overs. This proved to be too much of a task for
the home side but they held on for a creditable draw
with the last pair at the wicket.
Chris is without doubt a model professional and
talking to a few of the Derbyshire supporters who
made the trip down to Uxbridge last week he has done
a lot of good work for the county both on and off
the field.
