END OF AN ERA
After more than 20 years as the clubs Treasurer, (and much more) David Lea has announced his intention to retire.
The amount of work and commitment David has given to the club over so many years is legendary and without doubt his strong
hands on the tiller of our finances is going to be missed. The whole club joins together to say ‘Thank You’ David you have done a fantastic job.
David has agreed to continue for a little while acting as the Club’s overseer of finance however many of the jobs David has undertaken will now be the responsibility of others.

PRE-SEASON SEASON GATHERING
As in previous years we are holding an early season gathering in the Pavilion on Friday 4th April at 7.30pm. This has become a popular event as it allows us to swap winter tales and talk some cricket – over a pint or two!!
There will be food available (for a small charge) and everybody is welcome.
Please give Helen Overton a ring on 01237 478904 (so that we have some idea of numbers).

SHREWSBURY SARACENS
TOUR 2008 TOUR 2008

Our annual trip to Shrewsbury this year will be on Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th of July. All those who have made the trip in recent years will vouch not only the superb cricket and location but also the very enjoyable social activities.
All who wish to go this year either as a player or as a social spectator please let Richard Screech or Colin Payne know.

INNINGS OVER

During recent months the club has been deeply saddened by the loss of several long standing members & supporters.

Terry Tyres.
Terry Joined the club in the late 1970's from Der
byshire. He served as Second XI captain  1978-1990. Terry also stood as a Devon League umpire. He was also on the Committee during this period and served Hon Sec in 1990 & 1991. Terry was a solid middle batsman who put everything into his cricket. He was struck down in later years by a heart attack and stroke which left him a shadow of himself. He till turned up and walked for miles lapping the ground supporting the cricket passing on words of wisdom. Condolences to his wife Margaret ,and sons  Andrew and Robert.

Ron Ravenscroft (ravers)
Ron Ravenscroft Passed away at the North Devon District Hospital on March 24th, 2008 aged 74 years.
Ron Was a hard hitting sometimes controversial left hand bat who played for the club in the 1970's. He later went  to play for Braunton.

William Henry (Bill) Pain

After three years in Fremington Nursing Home Bill Pain passed away on the 5th February 2008 aged 83. Mr Instow, as he was very often known served as Chairman, Fixture Secretary & Secretary of North Devon CC. He was also Secretary & Steward of the Yacht Club and for ten years Clerk to the Parish Council. He knew everybody in the village and they knew him. A giant of a man in more ways than his 6 foot 4 inches in height - Bill will be missed by all.

Ted Crowe

Ted died peacefully in his chair at home at the end of January aged 79. In recent years Ted had been regular visitor to Instow to watch his third favourite team (after Somerset & Devon). He would park his car, set out his chairs and wait for passing acolytes to pay homage and chat with him for a while. He was a great supporter of North Devon CC and it is a great shame that he will not be with us when Devon plays its first three day championship match at Instow in August. He would have loved it and will be with us in spirit.

John Williams (Sandwich John)

After a long battle against cancer John passed at the end of February. A great supporter of the club he graduated from simply coming to watch games to helping for several years with the bar, serving at functions and keeping the equipment in good order. He also spent many unseen hours cleaning throughout the pavilion and "fixing fings"
