21st August 2009 Issue Number 4
Reports
from last weekend 15th & 16th August
Saturday
The 1sts, 2nds and 3rds faced a tuff Saturday playing the
champions elect from each of their respective divisions. Selection
was difficult as the club had a number of players unavailable.
However this gave the opportunity for new and old to stake their
claim.
1st Eleven were home to Sidmouth. Sidmouth batted first and were
soon in trouble with young Craig Overton taking a wicket in the
first over caught behind by his brother Jamie. From then on it was
15 year old Max Curtis bowling off spin from the sea end taking
the next three wickets, unfortunately the soon to be crowned
Champions found their feet and finished on 220 for 6. In reply we
got behind the clock and struggled to 114 all out.
Congratulations to Sidmouth who were crowned Devon League
Champions.
2nd Eleven were away to Sidmouth, North Devon batted first and
were soon in trouble at 60 for 5 and 85 for 8. The 2nds got to
118 thanks largely to fourteen year Paul Heard with a fine 23 and
Warren Miller 25. After tea Sidmouth knocked the runs off to win
by 7 wickets.
3rd Eleven were away to a strong Honiton 2nds. Honiton batted
first and reached 195 -6 at tea. Unfortunately the 3rds were
bowled out for 103.
A
difficult day for all of our teams, but the positives well out
weighed the negatives. Three under 15 in the 1st's batting and
bowling, more than half of the 1st team under 22. The 2nds had an
U14 and again two other players under 17. The 3rds had only three
over 21's. Exciting times lay ahead.
Sunday
20/20 Devon Final at Instow
Norths retain their Crown

Rob Ayre emulates last years skipper Matt Westaway and the team
are crowned Dartmoor Brewery Twenty20 Devon Champions
and now go on to represent Devon in ECB Nationwide Cockspur
Trophy.
North Devon
were drawn against Bradninch in the first semi final which turned
out to be very one sided. The Norths batted first and totalled 180
for 4 with the main run getter Stuart Rhodes smacking his way to
83, which included ten fours and one six.
In reply Stuart and Craig Overton had Bradninch reeling at 20-5,
with their main run getters back in the hutch the opposition
succumbed to 64 all out. Craig Overton 4-0-16-4 and Stuart Rhodes
4-0-12-1.
The final was against Plympton CC. Again we batted 1st and amassed
156 after the 20 overs. A real team effort with Rob Gear 34,
Michael Heddon 33No, Stuart Rhodes 28 and Jamie Overton 16 No.
Again Stuart and Craig opened the bowling, keeping the score down
but without taking any wickets. Matt Dart was 1st change from the
pavilion end and almost immediately had success with 4 -18 in 4
overs. At half way Plympton needed more than 10 an over, with 5 to
go they need 74 with the game as a good as won. Matt Dart
was man of the match.
Apart from the individual contributions mentioned above the team
as a whole performed at the highest level, the fielding was full
of enthusiasm and encouragement, the running between the wickets
turning ones into twos and keeping up the pressure on the
opposition was first class.
Squad: G. Jones (Coach) N. Bettis, R. Hearn, D. Bowser, C.
Overton, D. Pickard, J. Overton, J. Ridge (Scorer), M. Curtis, S.
Rhodes, M. Heddon, M. Dart, R. Ayre, M. Westaway, R. Gear & J.
Kalsi.
The day was about the team on the pitch, but the club would like
to thank Scott, Helen and Siriol for keeping the BBQ running, Dave
Lee and Dennis Hart behind the Bar and Colin behind the scenes.
And off course Andrew for making sure the ground was in tip top
condition.
If I have missed
someone please forgive me
